Drone Services
Aquatechnex is fully licensed and certified to operate aerial drones for a number of lake management tasks
Remote Sensing
Mapping aquatic vegetation or harmful algae blooms is step one in developing a management plan. Drone imaging systems can provide very high resolution mosaics that let us see the exact location and extent of invasive aquatic plants. This mapping work leads to effective treatment strategies. Post-treatment survey missions can prove results from treatments. Our multispectral camera systems map chlorophyll and can detect and quantify conditions such as Harmful Algae Blooms (HAB).
Hard-to-Reach Aquatic Herbicide Applications
Aerial application drones are extremely effective in targeting invasive aquatic plants in hard to reach spaces. Some types of emergent or floating leaf vegetation can prevent boat access, and drones can rapidly target these areas. Lakes without boat access are also areas where aerial drone treatments can help landowners manage aquatic weed and algae growth.
Drawdown Applications
For submerged weeds and flowering rush
In our research work with the US Army Corps of Engineers Aquatic Plant Control Research Program, we developed drawdown treatment protocols that can very effectively target aquatic invasive species. Plants such as Eurasian Milfoil and Flowering Rush are an increasing problem in Western reservoirs and rivers. Many of these reservoirs are drawn down during the winter to create storage for spring runoff or to manage habitat. We have been making applications to lake beds that are exposed in the spring. This type of application is generally more cost-effective than in-water treatments, and control is achieved prior to the season, allowing for uninterrupted use.
